Inspire Me Thursday - Crayon Art

Posted Monday, May 19 at 4:33 pm by Kirsten

This week’s challenge for Inspire Me Thursday was to use crayons.

I used a technique I do all the time with the kids at school - draw a picture onto a piece of paper using crayons (I used oil pastels here because it’s the closest thing I have). Then, paint over the top of it - the paint will not stick to the spots with the oil pastels. It’s great for doing seascapes with kids, but I chose to do some trees using my white oil pastel & watercolour paints:

Ghost Tree

Ghost Tree 2

Let me know what you think! (I think the top one is the better of the two)

I like both - but you might be right about the top one being the better composition.

These are really pretty. The resist technique achieves such a a nice effect, and the colors are lovely.

Very lovely. I like this technique too.

I actually like the bottom one the best!
For resist, I always “permanently borrow” the clear crayon out of the kids easter egg decorating kit … you can paint something, use the clear crayon and paint over that, still being able to see the original painting!
