Inspire Me Thursday – Two
Posted Tuesday, April 1 at 9:23 pm by Kirsten
This week’s theme for Inspire Me Thursday is “two” (to celebrate the website’s second birthday). Oh, the possibilities!
The first thing I thought of when I read this topic was a reflection. I realised I had a box of watercolour paints I had never even opened, and thought this would be the perfect challenge to use them. I have used watercolour pencils before, but not watercolour paints, and I was quite surprised at how much more difficult I found them compared to acrylics.
Here’s what I came up with:
I wasn’t really quite happy with it and wanted to see how it would look with acrylics, and seeing as the theme was ‘two’, why not do two paintings?
So that’s what I did – this is the acrylic version:
I think the acrylic one is a lot better than the watercolour one – what do you think? Whatever the outcome, it was fun to step out of my comfort zone (although I admit I did like stepping back into my comfort zone again!)

I really like the watercolour version, and the type of effects that can be achieved with that medium. I know it’s not your comfort zone, but I think you should do some more!

I love both versions Kirsten! Trees are in my work a lot too and altho watercolors can be gorgeous & dreamy looking, for me it’s always been a power struggle w/ getting it to do what I want

serene either way. maybe stepping out of perceived comfort zones adds appreciation for that which we are familiar with. and the venturing forth into new media always allows some bit of valuable learning. thanks for reminding.

kudos to you for stepping out of your comfort zone to try something new! I think both are wonderful — the first reminds me of a foggy day and the second one reminds me of spring, the greyness lifting and bright blue skies all around!
fyi – in your post you have mentioned an upcoming IMT topic. hmm, can you guess what it is
